Worship Services – First Visit

Feel free to join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

George Street United is a large and beautiful old building. At first glance it can also be overwhelming, so we want to make sure you know your way around. A large stained glass portrait of Jesus the Good Shepherd is the first thing you see when you enter our vestibule and narthex (that's a churchy word for foyer). Flights of stairs rise on either side (there's also an elevator) opening into our sanctuary. The space is large, beautiful and carefully restored. We can seat 850 people. By now you may think we're in love with our own real estate. Be not afraid – our church is the people. The congregation itself is relaxed, open, and welcoming. Some of us still wear our "Sunday best", but many others come casually dressed. We have progressive and open-minded worship in this venerable old church, but still within the boundaries of traditional worship. Sit wherever you want. Children begin their worship with us for the first part of the service, followed by Sunday school. Some Sundays the children not only stay in the sanctuary, they also lead the service. A nursery is provided every Sunday, even through the summer months. Following each service, join us for coffee in the auditorium directly below the sanctuary.
