Worship & Music
The George Street United Church is presently active in its search for a new Music Director. Any party interested in this position should contact us today!
Newcomers will probably find our worship services in
the middle of the road, somewhere
between traditional and progressive.
We respect and honour the liturgy, but we sometimes use a hand drum to
lay down the beat. Communion is served by the ancient practice of
intinction (dipping the bread into the chalice), but it's often served
by children. We follow the church's lectionary, but we depart from it
when we need to. Music and art play vital roles in our worship.
Congregation members and children are often worship leaders. The sermons
are stimulating and challenging; we welcome the challenge of
understanding ancient words in a modern context. Just as it was in
Jesus' time, everyone is welcome.

Quotes "While I love the mix of old and new worship styles and music, the highlight for me is
Karen's sermons. She's such a riddle. She looks like a church lady; speaks without notes; she gestures
and makes faces; but delivers body-blows with her message. Don't come here looking for bromides and platitudes." |
