People & Programs – Warm Welcomes

The church has changed since the days of Pierre Berton's book, "The Comfortable Pew". No longer do members buy their own pews; gone are the days when every woman had to wear a hat and gloves to Sunday service; banished forever is the notion that pews are filled only with the righteous pious. We make it a point at George Street United to welcome everyone who comes through the doors, with Jesus as our model. You will note the following on the cover of every church bulletin under the heading Ministers: All of the congregation, with The Rev. Karen Ptolemy-Stam and The Rev. Julie van Haaften. This means that we all take the responsibility for making you feel warmly welcomed to our church. Hold us to our word!
